Coffee with the Chiefs – Here come the playoffs

Good morning, Addicts! It’s a Red Friday, and that is a beautiful thing come playoff time for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs will be traveling down to Houston today before taking on the Texans come Saturday afternoon at NRG Stadium. It appears the only active player that will be missing out is center Mitch Morse, who is yet to be cleared from a concussion sustained last weekend.

It’s the time of year that we all get to be incredibly nervous yet excited while we all lose our minds, waiting for a win that is 22 years in the making. Believe, and it will come.

Here is the news you need to know…

Kansas City’s defense has been great, and now it is betterDave Skretta of the Associated Press

"Which is precisely why Houston never got frustrated that his recovery wasn’t moving along more quickly. Sure, he acknowledged it would have been nice to “knock some rust off” by getting onto the field last week — he was listed as questionable — but there was no real reason to risk it."

Five reasons the Chiefs are going to beat the TexansAlex Marvez of FOX Sports

"After a 1-5 start — with four of those losses to other playoff qualifiers — Kansas City caught fire and currently sports the league’s longest winning streak at 10 games. The Chiefs also outscored the opposition by an NFL-best 150 points during that stretch, triumphing by an average margin of 27.8 to 12.8. Such success makes the Chiefs a confident bunch and legitimate threat to make a deep postseason run."

Chiefs and Texans are mirror image in many waysShalize Manza Young of Yahoo Sports

"On paper, these teams are quite similar: strong defenses, steady-but-unspectacular quarterbacks, and statistically they’re close in many categories. Also, both needed to finish strong to make it to this point, all of which makes this game tough to predict. The Chiefs are favored by three-and-a-half points, part of an oddity this weekend where all four road teams are favored."
