Sept. 13, 2015; The Chiefs visited the Houston Texans in their season-opener which ended up being a tightly-contested game resulting in a 27-20 victory for the Chiefs.  Alex Smith finished with 243 passing yards and three touchdowns. Jamaal Charles ran for 57 yards, and the leading receiver was Travis Kelce with 106 yards and two touchdowns.

No one would have predicted these two teams would play again in the playoffs. Yet here we are, as this Saturday the two will be playing in a Wild Card matchup at NRG Stadium.

In the previous matchup, Kansas City started hot with 27 points in the first half but was quiet in the second half. This became a trend for the rest of the season averaging 11.1 second half points per game. This is the 16th-worst average in the league and third-worst in the playoffs behind Washington (11) and Denver (10.8).

The top five teams in second half points are all in the playoffs (Arizona, New England, Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Seattle) but interestingly enough the Texans are at the No. 10 spot averaging 12.8 second half points per game.

Andy Reid and Doug Peterson are going to have to scheme and correct this bad trend for the Chiefs to advance much in the postseason. The teams that Kansas City should be worried about the most are teams that can score a lot of points like Steelers and Patriots (if healthy). But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here.
