The Kansas City Chiefs head into the playoffs this Saturday with injury questions that will remain throughout the week.

Mitch Morse was taken out of the game against the Raiders for the concussion protocol after coming back from a concussion just a couple of weeks ago. Monday it was reported that Dee Ford is in the concussion protocol after he sustained a hit to the head during the game and it went unnoticed.

Kansas City is already down Justin Houston currently and Tamba Hali is playing after just breaking his thumb two weeks ago against the Chargers. While KC has the ability to overcome some injuries their depth could be truly tested over the next couple of weeks if they can make it past Houston.

On the first couple of offensive series against the Raiders, Kansas City showed offensive playcalling that hadn’t been seen in several weeks. Andy Reid dusted off the playbook and proved he has been vanilla lately, doing enough to get the victory. The first play in the game to Anthony Sherman showed that Reid still has plenty that we haven’t even see this season that will keep the defenses guessing.

The Spencer Ware touchdown came on the heels of a jet sweep to Jeremy Maclin that Oakland wasn’t prepared for, using the same motion and formation of the sweep play. That is the type of playcalling that will help you advance throughout the postseason.

On defense, the Chiefs shut the Raiders down for most of the game. Oakland scored three points in the first half on offense despite having the weapons to be dangerous. Bob Sutton has found a way to stay effective enough even without his stud pass-rushers. The consistent defensive effort will be very difficult for teams to beat in the postseason. The secondary is playing great football and the defensive line is shutting down the run. If KC can find a way to stay healthy they can make a deep playoff run.

When looking at the Texans there is a lot that can be seen as a positive for Kansas City. The Texans don’t have the same level of offensive threats that the Chiefs possess. DeAndre Hopkins is a fantastic receiver but he doesn’t have a great compliment and the Texans running game is suspect. With Duane Brown missing the game the Texans will start Chris Clark at left tackle which will open up even more opportunities for the Chiefs defense to disrupt Brian Hoyer’s rhythm. Hoyer is decent but hasn’t shown the ability to put a team on his back and carry them to victory.

Houston’s defense is one of the best in the league but Reid showed he has the ability to neutralize J.J. Watt enough to be successful in Week 1. Alex Smith will have to play a clean game and come out ready to make quick reads and good decisions. The Texans have the talent to match up with KC’s offense if they play a perfect game but the talent on the Chiefs should find a way to win throughout the game.

Maclin and Travis Kelce will be vital to the offensive success and as long as they can find a way to be effective the Chiefs should be able to win and win comfortably on Saturday.

Kansas City will have another opponent on Saturday that they have to find a way to overcome and that is their playoff history. The majority of the core of this team was in Indianapolis two years ago when they dropped a heartbreaking loss to the Colts after being up 28 points. One of the biggest differences this year is Maclin. The Chiefs didn’t have a receiver capable of doing what Maclin can do to a defense. The other big difference is the Chiefs won’t have a quarterback with the talent of Andrew Luck on the other sideline.

It is time for Kansas City to get the playoff monkey off of their back and this should be the week that happens.
