De’Anthony Thomas placed on NFI list
The Kansas City Chiefs have officially placed wide receiver/returner De’Anthony Thomas on the Non-Football Injury list, ending the youngster’s season.
Thomas played in every game of this season until he was crushed on the first series of Week 11 against the San Diego Chargers. Thomas was diagnosed with a concussion and cleared the protocol last week, but on the eve of the contest was ruled out for personal reasons. Now, he’s done for the year, at least.
It makes you wonder if Thomas is going to route of Sean McGrath and Chris Borland. These are young guys who saw their future and didn’t like what football might do to it. Of course, Thomas is not a millionaire. He’s not going to retire tomorrow and never have to work another day in his life. Perhaps that keeps him from retiring if that is indeed what is going on. Then again, if Thomas has any concerns about his health, I personally hope he does what is best for him and walks away.
Without Thomas in the fold, Kansas City is without a solid punt returner. Frankie Hammond Jr. terrifies me to my very soul, because every time the ball comes down you don’t know if he is going to fumble or run 10 yards in the wrong direction. This could be critical come playoff time.
