Coffee with the Chiefs – Welcome to the playoffs

Good morning, Addicts! The Kansas City Chiefs won by the skin of their collective teeth on Sunday afternoon over the Cleveland Browns and coupled with a Pittsburgh Steelers loss to the Baltimore Ravens, are now in the postseason. This is the second time in three years under the leadership of general manager John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid that the Chiefs have reached the postseason.

The last time Kansas City made the playoffs in two of three seasons? Try 1995 and 1997. Yikes. Hopefully, the Chiefs can kill another ugly streak in a few weeks when they get rolling in the Wild Card round against an undetermined opponent.

Here is the news you need to know:

Chiefs beat Browns and punch playoff ticket – Adam Teicher of ESPN

"It could be an ominous sign that the Chiefs allowed the Browns (3-12) to creep back into this one and make it close. The Chiefs have struggled against two of the league’s worst teams in their past two home games. The Chiefs had to break up a pass in the end zone to hold off the San Diego Chargers on Dec. 13."

Kansas City holds on for ninth straight win and playoff berth – Dave Skretta of the Associated Press

"The Chiefs jumped out to a 17-3 halftime lead, but their offense became listless over the final two quarters, just as Manziel was pumping some life into the Browns (3-12) with his inspired play."

The Chiefs won, or at least did not lose, and now go to the playoffsSam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star

"You could see it in the body language after the game, even from a group that just became the second team in NFL history to go from 1-5 to the playoffs. They had a big celebration in the first moments back in the locker room, but after that, they sure acted like a group that just found out the postgame meal was catered by Subway."
