Tamba Hali has broken thumb, status uncertain

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has announced that outside linebacker Tamba Hali broke his thumb on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Reportedly, Hali had three pins and a screw into his thumb, but is apparently expected to play against the Cleveland Browns, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

If the Chiefs are without both Hali and Justin Houston, who is still dealing with a hyperextended knee, it could be a major problem. With all due respect to both Dee Ford and Frank Zombo, those two can’t hold a candle to our two Pro Bowlers.

Hali is also one of the best hand-fighters in the National Football League. This injury might really hurt his ability to do that.

Should the Chiefs be without the pair against Cleveland, they should still be able to overwhelm the Browns. However, the following week against the Oakland Raiders is a completely different story. Should Derek Carr be able to sit in the pocket all day, it would be a dicey situation.

Here’s to Hali getting healthy and being able to play … immediately.
