41. Montana beats 49ers at Arrowhead (1994)

In 1994, the Chiefs had high hopes of reaching the Super Bowl for the first time since 1969. The year prior, Kansas City made it to the AFC Championship game behind Joe Montana. Montana was entering his second and final season in 1994, and in Week 2, he faced the San Francisco 49ers at Arrowhead Stadium. Of course, Montana had played from 1979-92 with the 49ers and won four Super Bowls, before the team dealt him in the spring of 1993 to the Chiefs.

The game was hyped all week as a contest between Montana and Steve Young, and put on national television to be called by Pat Summerall and John Madden. The game was not much of a contest, with the Super Bowl-bound 49ers getting pummeled under a wave of Derrick Thomas and the defense. Montana was solid in the game and it fueled many to wonder if there would be a Super Bowl showdown between the two teams. Unfortunately, Kansas City would only make it to the Wild Card round.
