22 Sep 1996: Running back Aaron Craver of the Denver Broncos covers up the football as he is hit and wrapped up by lineman Tracy Simeon #54 of the Kansas City Chiefs during a carry in the Broncos 17-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium

77: Chiefs clinch playoff spot in regular-season finale vs. Broncos (1992)

The Chiefs had come into the 1992 season as strong contenders for the playoffs, but a couple of key losses late in the season, including one to a hapless New York Giants team, had put the postseason in question.  The Chiefs would need to score a win against the Denver Broncos, who were also playing for a playoff spot.

The Chiefs would come out and play maybe their best game of the entire year.  The Broncos had no answer for what the Chiefs would do on defense. The unit would put up three touchdowns themselves on a day that John Elway is certainly content to pretend simply never happened.  Six sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three defensive touchdowns were the result of a group effort from the Kansas City defense that was intent on redeeming themselves after the embarrassing loss to the Giants.

Unfortunately, the performance was wasted as the Chiefs were unable to make it pass the Wild Card round of the playoffs due to their lack of offense.  But on that afternoon, the Chiefs were on top of the world having not only secured a playoff spot, but also having ripped it away from the hated Broncos.
