88. Chiefs begin season 9-0 (2013)

Coming off a 2-14 season in 2012, nobody expected the Kansas City Chiefs to be much in 2013. The team was being coached by a third different man in as many years (Andy Reid) with a new quarterback in Alex Smith. Although some did expect quick improvement from a team that had six Pro Bowlers the prior season, it was impossible to expect what actually transpired.

Kansas City came roaring out of the gates, led by superstar running back Jamaal Charles and a nasty defense. The Chiefs toppled the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-2 in Week 1 before beating the Dallas Cowboys. In Week 3, Kansas City rolled over Reid’s old team on Thursday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles.

From there, the Chiefs would reel off six more wins. Kansas City was the biggest national story in the league for the better part of two and a half months, and finished with an 11-5 record and a Wild Card matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, the Chiefs would lose 45-44.
