Chiefs practice: Sean Smith, Allen Bailey sit out
The Kansas City Chiefs are back to work on Wednesday afternoon, with the team beginning to gear up with the San Diego Chargers next on the docket. Head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media before practice and stated that four players would be held out, including Sean Smith, Allen Bailey, Tamba Hali and Ben Grubbs.
Grubbs has been dealing with a neck injury for the better part of a month and there has not been much visible progress. The guard has been durable throughout his career, but currently it remains to be seen if he returns this season. Hali is the one to be least concerned about, considering the coaching staff has been giving him regular time off throughout the season.
With Smith, he has been listed with a knee contusion and is day-to-day. Smith should be back this Sunday barring something really surprising. Bailey missed last week with a calf injury but Reid sees him making progress toward getting back on the field.
Kansas City needs all hands on deck moving forward. The Chargers are 2-7 and a poor team, but they can’t be taken lightly. At 4-5, the Chiefs have to rise up and continue to play lights out as they have over the past three weeks. The Chargers are going to be without a bevy of stars, including receivers Malcom Floyd and Keenan Allen.
