Charcandrick West is playing for his future.  West has been quick to give credit to Jamaal Charles for bringing him along as a mentor, telling the gathered media this week “He’s the main reason I’m having the little success that I’m having right now. All credit goes to him and the offensive line, the team is doing a great job.” He runs more similarly to Charles than any other back on the roster.

That is a good sign for West, who is a free agent after this season. The salary cap is a tricky nut to crack and the market for free agent running backs has been falling in recent years. If he’s willing to take a modest contract in order to remain under Charles’ tutelage, he could become his heir-apparent.  However, if he continues to play well, he may just be pricing himself right onto another roster in 2016.

Looking Ahead

That is where the Chiefs stand halfway through the 2015 season. There is a lot of football yet to be played. With the state the Chargers are in and the Raiders being improved but unstable; the Chiefs can take advantage for the remaining schedule. Could it be enough to secure a wildcard? Possibly. I don’t any reason why it couldn’t. The team has to stick to building on what they have done as a team. Denver will be the biggest test of the remaining schedule.  Win or lose, Kansas City has a chance to make a run.
