The Wild Cards: There are a number of quarterbacks who could be available this offseason that might just throw this entire situation for a loop. I gave brief mentions to these players, but here is a quick run down of just who might be looking for a job in 2016…
Matt Stafford
Jay Cutler
Colin Kaepernick
Robert Griffin III
Nick Foles
Sam Bradford
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Bryan Hoyer
That’s actually a pretty good list, and it would be foolish to think that some teams won’t be looking to add a veteran presence rather than trust their future in an unproven rookie. That is especially true of general managers and coaches who have been around for a few seasons with not much to show for it (no, the Chiefs do not fall in that category).
Of course, this is all dependent on the Chiefs both deciding that now is the time, AND that there is a quarterback worthy of taking early in the draft. It does us no good to take a quarterback who doesn’t lead us anywhere, so we want our decision makers to be absolutely sure of the young man they are tasking with leading this team into the future.
