NFL power rankings: Chiefs starting to climb

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the bottom of the NFL power rankings over their five-game losing streak. It was tough to watch, a team that was ranked by most experts as a top-10 team had suddenly become a disaster.

After a 1-5 start, most decided the season was over, including yours truly. The Chiefs had completely fallen apart and had lost Jamaal Charles for the year due to his second ACL tear. All hope appeared totally lost, and then something incredible happened. Kansas City decided to show up.

Over the last two weeks, the Chiefs have looked like the team we all expected to see after they dominated the Houston Texans in Week 1. Kansas City toppled the Landry-Jones led Pittsburgh Steelers, 23-13, at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 7 before going to London and absolutely pasting the Detroit Lions, 45-10. It was a great way to finish the first half of the season, and gives us all some hope moving forward.

Here is how the NFL community sees the Chiefs after a short two-game winning streak:

NFL.com – 23

"Kansas City made believers out of a lot of people on Sunday — or, at least, a lot of Londoners. What about the rest of us?The case for unadulterated praise: The Chiefs didn’t just defeat the sad-sack Lions, they completely destroyed them. The offense looked better than it has all season. The case for responsible restraint: Well, these are the Lions, featuring the Jim Bob Cooter offense. Apparently, the new coordinator couldn’t fix everything with a hammer like this Cooter.Side note: Glad to see Alex Smith start running (78 yards)."

Yahoo.com – 20

"Travis Kelce has 40 catches for 538 yards and three touchdowns in eight games. Double that up and you’ll see that Kelce is having a really good season."

MLive.com – 21

"Oh, is Jamaal Charles out? I didn’t notice with the Chiefs managing to rack up 206 yards on the ground, their most since Week 4 last season."

Washington Post – 19

"The Chiefs found their offense. It was in London, waiting for them to show up."
