Defense is not off the hook either

I’m scratching my head about this defense. The defensive starters we were missing last year have returned and it appears the run defense is just as bad or worse. The secondary has at least some explanations to why the passing yards have been piling up with Sean Smith being suspended, Philip Gaines with a season ending injury, and a rookie corner that’s playing better than we could ask him to. The depth in the secondary is bad as neither Jamell Fleming or Marcus Cooper can cover a wide receiver at the professional (and maybe collegiate) level.

Is this on Bob Sutton? I’m starting to lean more that direction as there’s an abundance of talent on this defense yet they’ve found a way to surrender over 30 points three straight games. That is historically bad for this franchise and the defensive coordinator should certainly share some of the blame.

If the Chiefs are going to put together any kind of push for the post season this year the defense will have to be much better for them to have a chance. Even if you look at a Broncos team that’s struggling on offense, they are still finding ways to win with their defense. I only say that to hit the point that the offense doesn’t have to be spectacular if the defense can get back to pressuring the quarterback and forcing turnovers.
