Good morning, Addicts! It’s Thursday, which means we are officially into Week 3 of the National Football League regular season. The New York Giants are hosting the Washington Redskins in an NFC East showdown, or something like that.
Here’s the news you need to know:
Scouting the Chiefs – Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel
"Former Packers QB Doug Pederson is the coordinator, but coach Andy Reid calls the plays. A traditional West Coast tactician, Reid looks to screens, misdirection and gadget plays in an attempt to compensate for a weak down-field passing game. The Chiefs pull on a few running plays but their bread and butter is the zone scheme."
Kansas City has never lost at Lambeau Field – Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride
"The two teams have met on Monday Night Football before. Back in 1993, the Chiefs hosted the Packers and won the game, 23-16. The Packers had SIX turnovers in that game and only lost by seven. Hmm … that sounds familiar. The year before that game, Andy Reid broke into the NFL and stayed with the Packers until the Eagles hired him in 1999."
Why Eric Berry is a luxury – Matt Conner of Arrowhead Pride
"When Berry is healthy, there’s no doubt he’s a game-changer in the defensive backfield. Berry made the Pro Bowl his rookie year (2010) and the two years after suffering a torn ACL in 2012 and 2013. In his first three full seasons in the league, Berry made a difference on every down, generating 5.5 sacks, 8 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles (and another in the playoffs in 2013) and scoring 3 defensive touchdowns. Life without Berry is miserable."
Jaye Howard has become a monster – Seth Keysor of Arrowhead Pride
"The next time someone starts citing tackle stats as a way of gauging defenders, feel free to show them that play. It’s a wonderful example of how stats fall short. There really ought to be a “blew up the play and ruined it but didn’t record the tackle” stat."
