Chiefs sign Dezman Moses, Paul Fanaika to IR

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday morning, bringing back a familiar face and putting another on Injured Reserve. According to Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs have re-signed outside linebacker Dezman Moses and put offensive lineman Paul Fanaika on IR, ending his season.

This might be the reason for the moves:

The signing of Fanaika has been nothing less than a train wreck. While the cap hit is nothing special, general manager John Dorsey signed Fanaika to a three-year deal with the hope he could compete for a starting guard spot. Instead, Fanaika was never in the mix, sitting behind Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Zach Fulton and Jeff Allen. Had Fanaika been healthy, he would have been buried on the depth chart.

Meanwhile, Moses gives the Chiefs a ninth linebacker for the roster. Moses had a very strong preseason, making it fairly surprising when he was released earlier in the week. Moses will slot in with Dee Ford and Frank Zombo as backups to Tamba Hali and Justin Houston. Josh Martin was also in this mix until he was placed on season-ending IR with a concussion.
