It’s been one of those “feel good” Care Bear offseasons for sure.
Free agency brought the Kansas City Chiefs a Pro Bowl left guard in Ben Grubbs and a premiere wide receiver in Jeremy Maclin. Clark Hunt showed Justin Houston that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (not just pot). The NFL draft brought us a starting caliber corner, center and inside linebacker in Marcus Peters, Mitch Morse and Ramik Wilson, respectively.
Just when the offseason couldn’t get any better both inside linebacker Derrick Johnson and defensive lineman Mike DeVito showed up at training camp fully recovered from similar Achilles injuries. Then, with hope for 2015 at an all time high, the football God’s said “There’s more,” when Hodgkin’s Lymphoma victim Eric Berry announced he’s completely cancer free and on top of that… Eric’s coming back this year.
In some respects… for the Chiefs to have a great season in 2015… well, they already have had a great season no matter how it plays out. I for one, am thankful for the many blessings already flowing forth from and through Arrowhead.
For many fans, that’s not enough. So, without further adieu…
For the K.C. Chiefs to have a great year…
Their core of offensive stars will need to stay healthy. Jamaal Charles, Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce (knock on a Redwood) will need to not only have the kinds of season’s we’re all expecting them to have… but they’ll need to stay on the field this year. The drop off from starter to back-up is probably greatest at those three positions this year with tight end and wide receiver topping that list. I can trust in the back-up running back to step in and play well more than I can the second wide out or especially the second tight end… whoever that might be.
