Chiefs trade Kelcie McCray to Seahawks for 5th round draft pick

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly traded safety Kelcie McCray to the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round draft pick.

Holy crap!

The trade was reported by both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.

The Seahawks were desperate for help at the safety position. They’re still in a contract dispute with Cam Chancellor. That desperation led to the Chiefs snagging a pretty decent draft pick for a guy that wasn’t likely to see much playing time anyway.

McCray is not some kind of stud. He was undrafted in 2012, eventually signing with the Miami Dolphins. He later caught on with the Bucs before being traded to the Chiefs for guard Rishaw Johnson last summer. He has 17 career tackles, only two of which were recorded during his time with the Chiefs.

This is a pretty fantastic move by Chiefs GM John Dorsey. KC has done such a good job adding talent over the last couple of years that the rest of the NFL is interested in its table scraps. To get a fifth-round pick for a guy that the team probably would have cut is absolutely fantastic.

Don’t be surprised if Dorsey still has a move or two up his sleeve. A lot of players just hit the free agent market so more additions and cuts could be coming for KC. There has also been some buzz about the Chiefs testing the trade market so Dorsey could still end up pulling the trigger on another deal.
