The Kansas City Chiefs need to get down to their 53-man roster on Saturday by 3 p.m. CST, and the process has begun. Kansas City will have some tough decisions to make, and the first has come down with the release of receiver Fred Williams, according to Herbie Teope of Chiefs Digest and the Topeka Capital-Journal.
Williams was incredibly productive throughout the four exhibition contests, catching four touchdowns. However, Williams is 27 years old and was released instead of the younger Frankie Hammond Jr., who can also return punts. With Williams being cut, the receiver group is almost certainly Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, Chris Conley, Albert Wilson, De’Anthony Thomas and Hammond Jr.
Here are the other cuts throughout the day:
OL Daniel Munyer
FS Sanders Commings
The #Chiefs have waived-injured Sanders Commings, per a source. That means if he clears waivers, he’ll spend 2015 in IR.

RB Spencer Ware
The #Chiefs are waiving RB/FB Spencer Ware, a source tells me. Tough, hard runner who really impressed.

By my count, the Chiefs have released seven players, meaning they stand at 68 players. There are 16 more cuts to come, and if general manager John Dorsey sees somebody he likes hitting the market, he could move to make a signing and make things even crazier. If there is one thing we have learned about Dorsey throughout the years, he will be very aggressive this weekend if an opportunity arises.
Update: The cuts are final for now.
