Chicago Bears: The Bears will start the season without rookie wide receiver Kevin White. White was placed on the PUP list and will have to have surgery on his shin. The Bears also placed safety Ryan Mundy on Injured Reserve. The Bears defense was already stretched thin, so this is a very large blow. The Bears did manage to acquire a tight end, Khari Lee, from the Texans for a sixth round pick.
Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals have placed first round offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi on the NFI list. He will not be eligible to return until after the sixth week of the season.
Cleveland Browns: Johnny Football may be out for a while…or not. The troubled first round quarterback has an issue with his elbow, and no one seems sure when he’ll be ready to throw again. With the poor performance of Josh McCown in preseason, this couldn’t happen at a worse time. The Browns have also placed backup quarterback Connor Shaw on Injured Reserve. The situation in Cleveland seems to be getting more and more convoluted every day. The Browns cut former first round pick, Phil Taylor. Taylor has had injury issues and was a questionable fit for the Browns new defense.
Chiefs’ take
: For those of you that don’t remember, Phil Taylor is the player the Brown selected when they traded up with us in 2012. The Chiefs took Jon Baldwin with that first pick, but the additional third round pick turned into Justin Houston. Looks like we win. Also…the Chiefs should look at Taylor, he could be a great backup for Dontari Poe.
Cowboys tackle RJ Dill has set the team back after his recent suspension…but it might not have totally been his fault. Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports
Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys will be without offensive tackle RJ Dill for the first four games of the season. Dill is being suspended for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing drugs. Dill was not a lock to make the Cowboys roster, so it will be interesting to see what they do. Dill released a very interesting statement through the NFLPA. It would seem that his situation is not a simple one.
Denver Broncos: The Broncos have traded offensive tackle Chris Clark to the Texans for a seventh round pick. The move is surprising, considering that the offensive line is one of the biggest question marks for the Broncos roster. The Broncos will also be without safety TJ Ward for the first game of the season as he was suspended for violating the personal conduct policy.
- Chiefs’ take: While Clark wasn’t set to be a starter, he was an important depth player. I’m not sure what the Broncos are thinking here, but the Chiefs should be happy about this.
