For the third time in their preseason history, the Kansas City Chiefs went undefeated. The first two occasions resulted in a Super Bowl season. This is great news. On Thursday night at the Edward Jones Dome, the Chiefs defeated the St. Louis Rams, 24-17, securing a 4-0 record heading into the regular season.
Kansas City has looked exceptional for the most part throughout the summer. The starting offense struggled over the first two games but came out firing in the third contest, rolling up 17 points on three drives against the Tennessee Titans last week. The defense has looked tremendous, not allowing more than 19 points in any of the four games.
Three Stars
1. Aaron Murray and Chase Daniel
How can you separate these two? Daniel started the game and other than a pick-six in the second quarter, played lights out once again. Daniel finished 16-of-20 for 117 yards and a touchdown. After Daniel left the contest, Murray came in and produced another quality start. Murray hit on 11-of-15 for 86 yards and a touchdown, continually showing the ability to throw on the run.
2. Spencer Ware
Ware is not going to make this team, but only because he has Jamaal Charles, Knie Davis and the emergence of Charcandrick West ahead of him. Ware did have a bad fumble, but he runs with authority. The spark plug rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries while catching five passes for 37 yards. It’s hard not to like Ware’s style. Maybe he lands on the practice squad.
3. Offensive line
Zach Fulton looked very solid at center, getting tons of push in the run game. The rest of the line was excellent as well, allowing a few pressures but no sacks against a good Rams front. Kansas City needs the offensive line to be good in front of Smith, and while these were the backups, it is still a good sign.
Odds
The Rams were favored by three, and yeah, they didn’t cover the spread.
Next Week
The Chiefs play on Sept. 13 in their regular-season opener against the Houston Texans.
