Chiefs vs. Rams: 3 things to watch

The Kansas City Chiefs are playing the St. Louis Rams on Thursday night at the Edward Jones Dome, looking to have their first perfect preseason since 1969. Of course, that was a glorious year. The Chiefs won’t be playing a regular-season game until Sept. 13, but there is still plenty to be watching for until then.

The starters won’t be playing on Thursday, according to head coach Andy Reid. Reid is making sure his stars stay healthy and is basically treating Week 4 of the preseason like a BYE. With all that in mind, check out these three topics throughout the evening.

1. Fred Williams vs. Frankie Hammond Jr.

This might be the most intriguing battle of the night. Williams seemed like an afterthought going into training camp, but has been nothing short of incredible throughout the first three preseason games. Williams has caught four touchdowns and shown an ability to both catch the ball with his hands and get past the safeties. If Williams can have another tremendous performance, can he unseat Hammond?

2. Aaron Murray

Murray looked terrific against the Tennessee Titans on Friday, throwing for a pair of touchdowns in a 34-10 win. Can Murray back up that performance and look like a potential starting quarterback of the future for Kansas City? Murray is only in his second season, so getting some nice returns – even in preseason – would be a really encouraging sign. Hopefully Murray shows more talent.

3. Zach Fulton at center

The Chiefs are giving Fulton some run at center to start the game. If Fulton looks very natural there, does Eric Kush get the ax on Saturday? Kush entered training camp as the starting center but quickly lost his job to Mitch Morse. If Fulton looks good, does that make Kush expendable? This is definitely something to keep an eye on.
