* Fred Williams and Da’Ron Brown both looked good, and I’d love to see both make the roster. The problem is that Frankie Hammond also caught a touchdown pass and is a solid special teams contributor. I don’t see any way KC can keep all three on the 53-man roster so it will be interesting to see how the battle for the last wideout spot or two shakes out.

* In what was a bit of a surprise for me, I thought several of the second string defensive linemen looked pretty good. Loni Fangupo, David Irving, Vaughn Martin, and Charles Tuaau all played well at times. They just need more consistency. I’m on record as saying that KC will need to sign another veteran defensive lineman for depth if Dontari Poe is going to miss multiple games. I’m not ready to back off that stance just yet, but a few more games like Saturday from some of those guys and I may start to reconsider.

* There was some talk during camp that kicker Cairo Santos was struggling a little bit with consistency. Again, it’s just one game, but he looked rock solid in the first preseason game.

* My final thought before I get to the offensive line is how encouraging it was to see our second-string absolutely manhandle the second-string of a playoff team in their own building. The Chiefs were completely devoid of depth when Andy Reid and John Dorsey got here and that isn’t the case now. Yes, the starters were outplayed, but the only difference was that one big play Arizona made and with the defense playing vanilla and Jamaal Charles not getting any touches I’m certainly not panicking. Again, the Cardinals were an 11-win playoff team last year. I’m happy with this first showing.

Now it’s time to talk offensive line….
