3. Tony Gonzalez

The most dominant tight end to ever play the game. Throw out all the nonsense about Gonzalez finishing his career with the Atlanta Falcons. Gonzalez remains a Kansas City legend, a man who started the trend of finding college basketball players to make into tight ends, a la Antonio Gates. Gonzalez was not only a trendsetter but the finest pass-catching tight end in league history.

Gonzalez broke into the NFL with Kansas City after being a first-round selection in the 1997 NFL Draft. After starting off slowly, Gonzalez stole the national spotlight in 1999 when he scored 11 touchdowns. From there, Gonzalez would amass five seasons with at least 90 catches, four seasons of more than 1,000 receiving yards and two more double-digit touchdown campaigns.

When Gonzalez retired after the 2013 season, he left behind an incredible legacy. Gonzalez ranks first among tight ends with 1,325 receptions, 15,127 yards, 111 touchdowns and 14 Pro Bowl berths. Gonzalez is undoubtedly a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He ranks fifth among all players in receiving yardage and second in receptions behind only Jerry Rice.
