Chiefs camp: Marcus Peters, Phillip Gaines continue to shine

The Kansas City Chiefs continued training camp on Saturday with the fans getting to enjoy Family Day at St. Joe’s. Kansas City was in pads again and looked to be having a mundane practice until Jeremy Maclin had to leave with an injury, causing fans to hold their collective breath. Fortunately, Maclin only had a jammed thumb and was able to return to practice.

On the defensive side of the ball, corners Marcus Peters and Phillip Gaines were starring once more. Peters has been the main star of camp, intercepting three passes on the first day of padded practice. On Saturday, Peters once again intercepted Alex Smith when he overthrew Frankie Hammond Jr. Gaines also reportedly nabbed an interception, showcasing what the Chiefs have for opponents over the first three weeks when Sean Smith is suspended.

Outside of that, the news was light. Jamaal Charles continues to be incredible, scoring on three consecutive plays. Charles had his family in attendance, perhaps giving him some extra motivation. In the one-on-one drills, the offensive line was getting worked over by the defensive line. Allen Bailey and Jaye Howard continued to flash, giving Kansas City hope that the loss of Dontari Poe will not spell disaster early in the season.

Here are some tweets from the fine folks who were there:
