#4 Brandon Flowers

Brandon Flowers who is naturally a better at zone than man to man coverage was let go by Kansas City in 2014 due to not fitting the scheme but found a new home in San Diego after just recently resigning with the Chargers for another 4 years. According to Pro Football Focus, Flowers was thrown at 75 times and gave up 618 yards (21st in the league) in coverage for the year among cornerbacks taking 60% of the snaps. Flowers was tied (with Sean Smith) at 37th in the league in tackles with 46 and at was tied at 10th in the league in interceptions with three.

PFF had the average quarterback rating when throwing at Flowers at 84.2 which was 22nd ranked among cornerbacks in the league who took 60% of the snaps. Flowers finished with the 11th-best overall PFF grade among cornerbacks at a +8.2. His best individual performance of the season came against the Jaguars where he was graded at a +4.7. His worst performance grade of the season was against the Broncos -3.1.

I’ll be doing another revised update after the first quarter of the season and this could look very different, in fact I know it will for one specific player who won’t be playing most of the quarter. Maybe a rookie sneaks in? Fingers crossed.
