3. Marcus Peters is legit

Sometimes, you hit the lottery. It is to be determined if the Chiefs have done that with Peters, the 18th-overall pick of this year’s draft, but the early returns are promising. I reported from camp that Peters was extremely impressive before the pads came on, showing incredible hip movement and the ability to turn and run with a receiver.

With pads, Peters absolutely rocked. On Monday, Peters recorded a trio of pass breakups and three interceptions, including two off Alex Smith, who throws interceptions less than anybody else on Earth. Come Tuesday, Peters was again jumping routes and sticking to receivers like glue.

If Peters was not in trouble with his coaching staff at the University of Washington, he would have been the top corner on everyone’s board. The Chiefs decided to gamble on the kid, and so far, it appears the bet was worth it.

4. Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin have work to do

On Saturday, Smith and Maclin were playing in perfect harmony. The passes were crisp both on short and deep routes, while Maclin appeared to be fitting in with his new team like it was a stroll in the park. However, things have been a bit rocky since, including Smith throwing an abnormally high total on interceptions.

The reality is that Smith and Maclin will continue to learn each other’s tendencies and find a rhythm. Yet, it will take time. Rarely is that type of relationship built overnight, but both are professionals. Provided they put in the requisite amount of work, things should be clicking by Week 1.
