Chiefs podcast: Houston’s contract, Charles’ prime and DAT’s role

Joel Corry’s excellent article for CBSSports.com provides a feasible middle ground for the Chiefs and Justin Houston, and on this show, I unpack it and explain why I’m in the “sign him as soon as possible” camp for Justin Houston.

The subject of Jamaal Charles’ future/being past his prime has become a topic of conversation in the last week, and I connect him to two other star NFL running backs to try to determine when Charles will perform at a less-than-Hall of Fame level and when he’ll ultimately drop off entirely. (It’s not as soon as it would be for most 29 year-old backs.)

On Twitter, @tewing96 asked how the Chiefs will use De’Anthony Thomas. Using two surprising players with similar builds from Andy Reid’s past, I think we can project what 2015 will look like for the Black Momba.

Evan Silva wrote about expectations for the Chiefs in 2015, and I think his somewhat-optimistic projection is quite well-justified.

Pro Football Focus published a piece about being “on-target,” and their findings show why the ceiling is higher than  you may think for Alex Smith, Travis Kelce and the rest of this Chiefs offense.
