Chiefs 2015: What player would you take from another team?

If you had one wish for the Kansas City Chiefs in terms of taking any NFL player that is not a quarterback and putting him on the team, who would he be? The Chiefs have one of the best rosters in the game, especially on defense, but still could use some upgrades both on the offensive line and with regard to the receivers.

It’s just a made-up game, but July is made for stuff like this. So in the spirit of fun I’m going to give it a shot. Kansas City definitely needs another reliable receiver on the other side of Jeremy Maclin, and while that could be Chris Conley, Jason Avant, De’Anthony Thomas or Albert Wilson, none of those guys have proven they can do the job (Avant once could have, but he’s older).

Even so, I’ll pass on receiver because Alex Smith would rather throw short, and often to his backs and tight end. It seems like a waste of an incredible gift. The offensive line is a major player in this game. Could you imagine if Kansas City was able to land a guy like Joe Thomas or Tyron Smith? Nothing against Eric Fisher, but I’d buy him a one-way ticket in a heartbeat.

Defensively, it is almost impossible to list a position of major need. However, the thought of J.J. Watt and Justin Houston on the same side is insanely exciting. Could you imagine that coming at Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers? Needless to say, that would be epic.

In the end, I would take none of them. I would take Rob Gronkowski.

Gronkowski is an incredible athlete and Andy Reid lives for his two-tight end sets. The notion of Travis Kelce and Gronkowski both running routes at the same time is a beautiful thing. Smith might actually throw for 4,000 yards and never have to hit a receiver the rest of his life. Plus, it would just be fun as hell to see Gronkowski and Kelce trying to top each other with end zone dance moves.

What about you, Addicts? Which player (non-QB) would you take for the Chiefs?
