Carolina Panthers:  Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin continues to struggle with hamstring injuries this offseason.  His inability to get on the field and work may be what led to him reporting to camp roughly 9 lbs overweight.

  • Chiefs’ take: This is the concern with Albert Wilson’s hamstring issues.  Hamstrings are notorious for being a nagging injury that can continue to pop up.  If not properly rehabbed, it can be a long-term issue that sets a player back a long ways.

Chicago Bears:  The Bears added former Dolphins running back, Daniel Thomas, and journeyman safety, Sherrod Martin, to their roster.  Both players are former second round picks that never lived up to their draft status, though Thomas did have some success in Miami.  Martin formerly played for Bears head coach John Fox in Carolina.

Cincinnati Bengals:  Defensive lineman Devon Still has returned to Bengals team activities.  Still had taken personal time off due to complications with his daughter’s health due to cancer treatments.  Leah Still was one of the brighter stories of last year as she fought against cancer.  The current health concerns are not cancer-related, but a common side effect of the treatments.

Dallas Cowboys:  In spite of what has seemed to be a contentious negotiating war between wide receiver Dez Bryant and the Cowboys front office, the star showed up to minicamp after previously hinting he might hold out.  However, he did not partake in practice or sign his franchise tag.  Bryant has been up front about his desire to be a top paid wide receiver, and the Cowboys have been up front about their desire to reign in the wide receiver market.  We’ll see how this pans out.  In other Cowboys wide receiver news, Terrance Williams left practice with an elbow injury, but x-rays came back negative.  He is listed as having a bruised elbow.

Chiefs’ take

: The Bryant contract battle has seen far more media coverage recently than that of Justin Houston.  However, both situations have some very intriguing parallels.  Bryant’s contract probably won’t have any effect on Houston’s, but the negotiating process may follow a similar track…though probably with less of a circus feel to it.

“I got somebody else’s kneecap.  It was difficult because it was a bigger knee … I love the scar, though.” ~ Danny Trevathan on new kneecap

Denver Broncos:  The Broncos are optimistic that they will have both starting inside linebackers, Brandon Marshall and Danny Trevathan, back healthy in time for training camp.  Marshall has two screws in his foot from offseason surgery for a foot sprain, while Trevathan literally has a new kneecap!

  • Chiefs’ take: Look, I hate the Broncos with a passion…but the Trevathan kneecap story is kinda cool.
