Coffee with the Chiefs – De’Anthony Thomas gets new role

Good morning, Addicts! Hopefully your weekend has been treating you well, and continues to on this Sunday. It is a good time to root for the Kansas City Chiefs, who look to be competing for a playoff spot and more this season. However, we have a little ways to go before the start of training camp. So let’s catch up on what has been going down and what to expect moving forward into week three of OTAs.

First, here is some good stuff on De’Anthony Thomas:

Chiefs expecting large role for De’Anthony Thomas Terez Paylor of Kansas City Star

"Though he was listed as a running back, Thomas often lined up in the slot. And while he did not run many traditional receiver routes — the overwhelming majority of his catches came on short targets and screens — he was a key factor on the Chiefs’ assortment of packaged plays, which give quarterback Alex Smith a run-pass option."

Kansas City best in West? – Leigh Oleszczak of KC Kingdom

"Looking at the other teams in the division, it won’t be an easy task for the Chiefs to come out on top this season. Peter King recently ranked the Chiefs as the fourth best team in the league, and the other AFC West teams came in at ninth (Denver), 15th (San Diego), and 31st (Oakland). Still though, the Chiefs have their work cut out for them against these other division rivals."

Ranking the AFC West coachesMike Norris of KC Kingdom

"The division currently has zero head coaches who manned the post in 2012. Kansas City’s Andy Reid and the San Diego Chargers’ Mike McCoy both began their stints in 2013. The four coaches however has 36 years of head coaching experience between them, which is plenty of time to critique, question and grade their performances."
