With the first of their four compensatory picks, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Oregon State Beavers cornerback Steven Nelson. General manager John Dorsey is loading up on the secondary, adding Marcus Peters with the 18th-overall pick in the first round before snagging Nelson 80 picks later.
Nelson will come in and provide a boost on special teams while he works to get onto the field in defensive sets. With Peters and Sean Smith likely the outside starters, Phillip Gaines and Nelson will be battling throughout training camp for the slot spot. Of course, Smith is likely to be suspended for the first two games of the season after pleading guilty to a DUI charge, so Nelson could be in the slot early while Gaines fills in for Smith.
Regardless, let’s get some quick reaction from around Twitter to the Chiefs’ decision to add Nelson.

Dorsey sees Steven Nelson as a CB, not a safety. That makes two CBs in the first four #Chiefs picks with Marcus Peters yesterday.
