Chiefs To Work Out Wide Receiver Jason Avant

Andy Reid is bringing in one of his former players in Philadelphia to potentially help solve the wide receiver issues.

Reports have Jason Avant in Kansas City working out with the Chiefs today. The team is down to just three healthy receivers – Dwayne Bowe, Frankie Hammond, and Albert Wilson – and need some reinforcements if Donnie Avery, A.J. Jenkins, or Junior Hemingway cannot go next Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Here’s the Twitter evidence of the Avant workout.

Avant is not a spectacular receiver, but he understands Reid’s offense and he knowns how to get open. At this stage of his career he is more of a possession receiver, but the Chiefs really cannot be picky at the moment. Whatever they can do to help get coverage off of Bowe and Travis Kelce will do wonders for an offense that lacks targets in the passing game.

KC brought in Santonio Homes last weekend but he left without a contract offer. One would think Avant would have a better chance of signing with the Chiefs than Holmes because Avant is already familiar with the offense. We’ll see what happens.
