A win today means the Chiefs are on pace for a 10-win season and a possible trip to the playoffs. Let’s do this.

DATE: Sunday, November 2

WHO: New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs

WHAT: Regular season game eight

WHERE: Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri

KICKOFF TIME: Noon

TV CHANNEL: CBS

RADIO: 101.1 KCFX The Fox or online at KC Chiefs Radio

LIVE STREAM: NFL.com

The 4-3 Kansas City Chiefs are set to host the 1-7 New York Jets at Arrowhead this afternoon in what is part two of a crucial three-game stretch for the Chiefs. A win today and a win next week in Buffalo would put the Chiefs at 6-3 and within striking distance of securing a playoff spot. Lose today or next week and the potential for said playoff spot decreases significantly.

According to 538, the Chiefs have a coin-flip chance of making the playoffs as of this writing. A win today doesn’t really change much. A loss, however, would very much put a dent in the Chiefs’ chance of making the playoffs, dropping the odds from 50/50 to a 30-percent chance of making the postseason. So, yeah, don’t lose today.

Fortunately, the Jets are a mess, as their 1-7 record would suggest. Michael Vick will be making his first start of the season for the Jets, replacing second-year quarterback Geno Smith. The last time Kansas City faced a Vick-led team, he come was only able to complete 13-of-30 passes for 201 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. He did add 99 yards on the ground, but he was also sacked six times and fumbled twice. In other words, Vick is a turnover machine at the moment.

Today is going to be more or less about waiting for the Jets to beat themselves. Their defense is pretty solid, ranking 14th against the pass and fifth against the run. But their offense continually puts them in terrible positions. In eight games the Jets offense has turned the ball over 18 times. Eighteen. Meanwhile, the Jets defense has forced only three turnovers all season. The inability to create turnovers combined with their propensity to turn the ball over … well now you know why they are 1-7.

Capitalize on the mistakes and don’t make many of your own. Do that and we should come away with a win today.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, Jets 10
