That’s what speed (and vision) do.

Chiefs back Knile Davis returned the opening kickoff of the second half 99 yards for a touchdown to give the Chiefs a 17-7 third-quarter lead. It is the second kickoff return for a touchdown in his career. His previous was 108 yards against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead last season, which set the record for longest play in franchise history.

It is a something of a surprise Davis is even returning kicks for the Chiefs. When he came in as a rookie, he had never returned a kick in his life, and it showed based on how he looked in training camp. It was bad enough that it inspired Adam Teicher to tweet this out after Davis’ touchdown return.

Kudos to Andy Reid and his staff, in addition to John Dorsey. Davis wasn’t a popular pick when he was selected in the third round of the 2013 draft. He had big workout numbers but also had massive fumble numbers. A lot of people thought he was a bust in the making. He — along with the people involved in his development — has proven a lot of those doubters wrong.
