The best defense is an efficient offense.

The Chiefs may not be lighting up the scoreboard every week with jaw-dropping plays, but they have been remarkably efficient and adept at controlling the clock. Their  Chiefs 3rd-down conversion rate of 50.6 percent is 2nd in the league. Take away the Tennessee game –  a bizarre textbook case of “how not to control the ball” — and the Chiefs’ rate jumps to 57.9 percent, which beats out Dallas for the best in the league.

Last week, the Chiefs only allowed the Chargers to touch the ball for one minute of the 3rd quarter. Even if the Chiefs aren’t snagging tons of turnovers or running back tons of kickoffs, they’re going to keep the enemy out of the endzone by simply keeping them off the field.
