Want to an immovable object meed an irresistible force? Behold, Dontari Poe playing fullback and blocking Vince Wilfork.
Let’s begin by making a quick request to ESPN.
"Dear Sports Science,Please do your cool scientific analysis stuff that you do on this play, please. Thanks a bunch.XOXO,Ben"
If you don’t remember this play, it was probably because you were too busy anticipating a Travis Kelce touchdown dance.
With 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and a 20 point lead, the Chiefs used a third and goal situation to experiment with Dontari Poe as an offensive weapon. On this particular play the Chiefs had him take out the Patriots best defensive lineman on what initially looked like a power running play up the middle. Instead, Alex Smith play-faked to Jamaal Charles and the rolled out to throw a beautiful pace to Kelce in the back corner of the endzone.
Poe, as you can see, stood up his guy at the line of scrimmage. That’s about 700 pounds of human crashing into each other with Poe going full speed ahead. The sound of that contact had to be fun.
It will be interesting to see what the Chiefs do throughout the season with Poe as a potential extra blocker in short yardage and goal line situations. Poe is extremely athletic and quick – as this Vine shows – and could do some things to help out the Chiefs interior offensive line. At the very least, it becomes one of the most entertaining formations in football.
