MIKE MCGLYNN AND RYAN HARRIS ARE A DISASTER
McGlynn and Harris combined for a -8.9 grade on Sunday, including two sacks allowed, two quarterback hits, and one hurry. And that may be an understatement from PFF.
Anthony Sherman was charged with the sack that led to the safety in the second half, but film review would suggest there was some serious miscommunication going on by Ryan Harris and Zach Fulton. On the play two defenders flooded Fulton on the blitz, which means (one would think) Harris should have helped take the inside man and left the outside guy to Sherman. This would have given Alex Smith more time to step up in the pocket or take off, which could have prevented the safety.
McGlynn was also responsible for the hit on Smith that led to a fumble. It was his man who destroyed him and was able to get to Smith and poke the ball free.
One could argue McGlynn and Harris were directly responsible for nine of the 15 points allowed by the Chiefs on Sunday. That’s not good, not good at all.
Good news is Donald Stephenson only has one more week left on his suspension before he comes back, which should help the Chiefs tremendously at right tackle. Filling the left guard void will be far more difficult. It will be interesting to see if Laurent Duvernay-Tardif or Eric Kush get a shot at left guard before the season is completed.
