In a game in which the Denver Broncos were supposed to run away from the Chiefs, Kansas City held strong.

With the First Pick
Down five projected starters to start the game, and down Eric Berry and Jamaal Charles by the end of the first half, the Chiefs were within one play of tying the game and sending it to overtime. But a last second pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage and the Chiefs fell 24-17 to Denver.
Two killers for the Chiefs:
First was on a long drive to start the second half which produced zero point. Kansas City drove down to inside the Broncos 10 and, with the aid of a Denver penalty, missed six chances at scoring a touchdown. More pain was added when rookie kicker Cairo Santos missed a 28-yard field goal.
Second was near the end of the first half and the Chiefs had a fourth an inches situation at midfield. Instead of going for it the Chiefs punted and the Broncos turned that possession into a touchdown. It may have been the difference in the game.
Moral victories are worth nothing in the standings but it means something when it comes to how we should look at this season.
The Chiefs were down seven starters – including three of their best players and two starting offensive linemen – went on the road to the best team in the AFC and nearly won.
It is hard not to be proud of the way the guys played today even though we lost. And there should be a renewed optimism that the Chiefs can compete and make this season interesting and not a 2-win disaster.
