Chiefs Sign Former Bronco Kevin Vickerson
By Ben Nielsen
Kansas City looked to Denver to find their defensive line replacement for Mike DeVito.
Kevin Vickerson, who was released by the Broncos in August, is your newest Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman according to Pro Football Talk. Here’s the written evidence.
"PFT’s Mike Florio reports the Chiefs have signed former Broncos defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson to a one-year contract. The addition of 31-year-old Vickerson comes one day after Chiefs defensive end Mike DeVito suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the club’s loss to Tennessee."
Vickerson is a nine year pro who spend the last three years with the Broncos. He also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins.
The 6-5, 328 pound lineman is strong player against the run though he is not an every down type of guy like DeVito was for the Chiefs. Still, Vickerson taking on run downs while Vance Walker and Jay Howard take over passing downs should be enough to stabilize the defensive line. It is not a compete fix but it is a very strong move to get the Chiefs back on track defensively.
The Chiefs did bring in Jerel Worthy for a look on Monday though it appears nothing came of it.
