Kansas City Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson Carted Off With Ankle Injury

Pro Bowl inside linebacker Derrick Johnson was carted off the field with an ankle injury in the second quarter of the Chiefs-Titans game. It is unknown what the severity of the injury is at this time.

Johnson was in zone coverage when he simply fell down. The looks of it is that Johnson’s left ankle gave out while he was in coverage, but it could have been something else. Here is a still image of the injury.

There is no replacing Derrick Johnson. None. He is one of the best middle linebackers in football, and maybe the best coverage linebacker in all of football. Between what he does getting everyone set up, coverage, and help against the run, it is hard to come up with a list of players more important to the Chiefs than Derrick.

Kansas City is already missing Joe Mays with a wrist injury so it looks like James-Michael Johnson and Josh Mauga will have to take over the inside duties with Johnson out.

When there is an update on his condition we will have it. For now the Titans are leading the Chiefs 10-3 at halftime.
