Kansas City Chiefs Injury Report: Marcus Cooper Returns, De’Anthony Thomas Sits
By Ben Nielsen
DOUBTFUL
De’Anthony Thomas (Hamstring)
It is looking like we are going to have to wait another week before we will see the debut of Thomas in the regular season. Thomas injured his hamstring in practice on Wednesday and missed the last two days of practice. The result means he’s probably not going to see the field on Sunday.
Good news is he was running on a treadmill today and looked fine, according to Andy Reid. This could mean that he will be healthy and ready for the Denver game next week, a game in which Thomas will be needed more than against Tennessee. And as we have said many times this week, it is better for the Chiefs to let Thomas’ hamstring heal than to press him into a return. Hamstrings can be nasty injuries if you try to come back from them too fast.
With Thomas out, the pressure on Anthony Fasano and Travis Kelce increases to have solid games. One less playmaker on the field means either Fasano has to be a stud in the red zone or Kelce needs to create some big plays downfield.
Albert Wilson may also see a few extra snaps in this game if Thomas is out. Dwayne Bowe is gone this week and Frankie Hammond Jr. will be replacing him. It leaves one to wonder if Wilson bumps up a spot and takes a few plays that originally would have gone to DAT.
