We’ve have some good news and some bad news on the early injury front. Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star observes De’Anthony Thomas is missing his second straight day with a hamstring issue while Marcus Cooper has returned to the practice field.
Twitter proof of said observations:
Cooper’s return is massive. It suggests the injury he suffered to his ankle is not very serious and more caution was being used yesterday than anything else. The Chiefs absolutely need Cooper on the field for 16 games if they want to have any shot at reaching their potential as a defense this season.
The Thomas absence is concerning but a little more complicated. Hamstrings are injuries you do not want to press if there is no need to press them. This makes it difficult to determine if the Chiefs are being cautious with him or if the injury is significant enough to keep him out of Sunday’s game. We should know more once Andy Reid speaks to the media later today.
For now we’ll speculate away.
(Happy Red Friday!)
