Man we are just a few short days from week one of the 2014 season. Hard to believe all that time has passed from when the season ending to this point. Now before I make my lovely wife a football widow I just wanted to share a few thoughts of on the recent moves made by the Kansas City Chiefs and my personal take on them might be.
1. We got our guy!

Now the haters are gonna hate, and the lovers are going to love, pretty sure that is just a given. However I fall in the lovers category. I am happy that the Chiefs were finally able to work out a deal with literally the best Chiefs quarterback in the last few “dark years”, Alex Smith. Now I know there are some out there who feel this is not the guy for us at this point in time. I understand their hesitations and there doubts, but I look at the bright side.
We were able to give Smith the money he deserves and make him happy. Hopefully he will not get a raging case of the “new contract blues” and start playing at a decreased level. Head coach Andy Reid and General Manager John Dorsey have tried, with little room, to surround Smith with solid players who will, if used right, lead to wins for the organization. From the many readings I have done since the contract new broke it really appeases both sides for the near future. Smith will be paid like an “elite” quarterback and there are options for Reid and company should their directions turn from Smith. Now its no surprise that I hate math given my grade status on the subject, but a win win situation for both seems like a plus to me.
Another positive that comes out of this is the fact that if a deal is not done with arguably the most important part of our front defense Justin Houston we always have the franchise tag to use on him. There are also a lot of rumors about the salary cap increase next year which would hopefully mean more wiggle room when it comes to nailing down a solid price. Personally I happen to think that if mister wide receiver Dwanye Bowe does not a a good second year under his new contract there should be some restructuring of said contract in order for the team to make the necessary moves. On the hole the Smith deal opens a lot for the Chiefs and should be a wise decision for the foreseeable future.
