Kansas City Chiefs Announce Eight-Man Practice Squad
By Ben Nielsen
In the middle of all of this Alex Smith madness, the Kansas City Chiefs saw fit to inform you they have signed eight players to their practice squad. How very kind of them to time things like this.
Not that you care, you just want to read the names so here you go.
FB Jordan Campbell
C Ben Gottschalk
G Ricky Henry
LB Nico Johnson
DL Kona Schwenke
WR Darryl Surgent
WR Fred Williams
RB Charcandrick West
Reports of the Chiefs signing linebacker Jerry Frankin are also out there but the Chiefs did not announce his signing. Rick Smith, Franklin’s agent, tweeted earlier in the day his client had signed to the Chiefs practice squad.
Assuming Franklin is/will be a member of the practice squad, the Chiefs have one more spot available to them for use. The team waived tight end Richard Gordon earlier in the day to make room for waiver claim Damion Square so Gordon could be an option their. However, it is unclear if Gordon is eligible for the practice squad under the new rules. That should be sorted out soon.
Kansas City could really afford to add another tight end to the team given what happened to their tight end group last season and the importance of the position to Andy Reid’s scheme. If not Gordon, I would expect John Dorsey to be looking for a tight end who may fit the Chiefs.
A defensive back is also an option.
