DEFENSIVE BACKS
Corners: Marcus Cooper, Ron Parker, Sean Smith, Chris Owens, Phillip Gaines
Safeties: Eric Berry, Husain Abdullah, Daniel Sorensen, Kelcie McCray
Injured-Reserve: Sanders Commings
The release of Malcolm Bronson is the biggest news in the secondary. Bronson was let go in favor of Kelcie McCray who was acquired in the Rishaw Johnson trade. One would expect Bronson to end up on the Chiefs practice squad if he clears waivers.
It is also a surprise that Demacurs Van Dyke was released by the Chiefs even though he is dealing with an injury. He had a solid preseason and training camp but it is clear the Chiefs decided to go a different direction. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs add another corner via the waiver wire.
With Eric Berry expected to return from injury in time for week one the secondary should be in decent shape against the Titans. But we’ve seen the issues the team has on the back end with Berry out so one would think there is going to be a lot of turnover back there throughout the season.
