Final Kansas City Chiefs 53-Man Roster Prediction
By Ben Nielsen
RUNNING BACKS
Jamaal Charles
Knile Davis
Cyrus Gray
De’Anthony Thomas
Anthony Sherman
Cut: Joe McKnight
Joe McKnight earned a roster spot with somebody after putting together some solid film Thursday night in the loss to Green Bay. He ran with power and purpose plus showed some flashes as a kick returner. Someone is going to want that in a backup role soon, if not before week one.
Cyrus Gray has earned a roster spot with this team after showing significant growth as a running back while maintaining his abilities as a quality special teams player. Of all of the players from this preseason, Gray’s growth may be the most surprising to me. I had all but written him off from the team before training camp started. Good for him.
Knile Davis got a ton of snaps this preseason and that should help the Chiefs moving forward. Not only did it keep Jamaal Charles fresh (only nine snaps this preseason) but it gave Davis a lot of quality experiences in the screen game and as a pass blocker. There’s definitely some areas where he needs to improve but these preseason snaps were very valuable.
