Kansas City Chiefs: Who’s Making The Grade?

As I look over the Pro Football Focus grades for the Kansas City Chiefs through three preseason games I have mixed emotions. On one hand, there are some players that have really stepped up and played well. Cyrus Gray, Travis Kelce, Ryan Harris, Eric Kush, Tamba Hali, and Malcolm Bronson are all at or near the top grades at their positions. Also, Frankie Hammond has distinguished himself amongst KC’s WRs and the additions of Chris Owens and Vance Walker look like they should help the defense.
On the other hand, Alex Smith has a horrible PFF grade this preseason and while the reserve offensive linemen have looked great the grades of the starting OL in front of them are a clear issue. The Chiefs don’t appear to have a suitable replacement in house for while Joe Mays is out and the CB play thus far simply hasn’t been good enough.
The bottom line is that KC is a talented but flawed team. Both John Dorsey and Andy Reid have some serious work to do if they want to return to the playoffs this season. Dorsey must immediately begin looking for a replacement for Joe Mays and would be wise to scout roster cuts for upgrades at WR, OL, and CB as well. Andy Reid and his coaching staff on the other hand have a lot of young players that they need to coach up. The development of some of the other young players on the roster prove that this is possible. It will be interesting to see just who is on the 53 man roster when the season starts and who the coaches trust to actually play in the games.
I’ll be anxious to hear what you think of these PFF grades in the comments below. Did any surprise you? Overall were you encouraged or discouraged by these grades? Regardless, I highly recommend you check out www.profootballfocus.com if you aren’t already a member. It’s well worth the time and money.
Finally, on a side note I have a personal matter to address with the Arrowhead Addict staff in the video below.
So the gauntlet has been thrown down my fellow AA staff members. What are you going to do about it?
As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!
