7 Things That Went Right For The Chiefs On Saturday

DE’ANTHONY THOMAS: STILL FAST
We still haven’t seen a lot of De’Anthony Thomas on the field as an offensive player but we are still continuing to see how his speed could impact the Chiefs offense.
Reid showed one play Saturday where he was able to matchup Thomas against a linebacker on a short pass over the middle. That pass turned into an 18-yard gain because there is no linebacker in football who can run with Thomas.
Thomas has participated in only 32 snaps this preseason and has touched the ball on offense just six times. It is hard to think he’ll only touch the ball two times per game in the regular season on offense because of the matchup nightmare he can create. No, he’s not going to be an every down kind of guy but if he can contribute 7-10 touches on offense per game then the Chiefs are going to likely get at least one big play out of him between those touches and his return ability.
What really helps the Chiefs if Thomas is a guy who you give the ball to in space and let him do his thing after the catch. This isn’t a situation where the Chiefs are going to need 4.5 seconds of quality blocking so he can work his way open down field. Getting the ball to Thomas on a quick screen, slant, crossing pattern is all you need for him to break something loose, and that should take a lot of pressure off the offensive line early.
