The Chiefs are through training camp, two preseason games, and are only five days away from the first cutdown of the season. Naturally the roster is beginning to shape up as injuries start to mount and playing time starts to decrease for the back half of the roster.
Whom is going to make the roster and comprise the 2014 Kansas City Chiefs? Let’s find out in version three of the Arrowhead Addict predicting the roster.
QUARTERBACKS
Alex Smith
Chase Daniel
Aaron Murray
Cut: Tyler Bray
These last two preseason games are going to be huge for Bray, who either will find himself on the open market or nestled somewhere on the Chiefs depth chart. He didn’t play last Saturday night in way of Aaron Murray getting a significant portion of the second half possessions.
I still feel the best scenario is for the Chiefs to trade Chase Daniel and keep the two young quarterbacks. Not only because the Chiefs could use the extra cap room for next season and for some flexibility in re-signing Smith and Justin Houston, but because history would suggest the gap between having a veteran quarterback and a young unproven quarterback as a backup is basically nothing. The Chiefs wouldn’t be losing much if anything by having Bray or Murray as the second string guy, plus it would give both quarterbacks more snaps during the week to learn the offense.
Simply, Bray and Murray have a potential longterm future here while Daniel does not. The pros of keeping Daniel simply do not outweigh the pros of letting him go.
